Physical Education
Our Physical Education curriculum aims to ensure all our children:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time both within the PE curriculum and beyond
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy active lives
- build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Hardwick Primary School follows the Get Set for PE scheme of work.
In Key Stage 1 the children follow a multi-skills curriculum to develop fundamental movement skills and become increasingly competent and confident. They engage in competitive activities both against themselves and others. Children are taught to:
- master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination.
- participate in team games developing simple tactics for attacking and defending
- perform dances using simple movement patterns.
In Key Stage 2 there is more focus on communicating, collaborating and competing with each other learning how to evaluate and recognise their own success. Sports become more sport-specific. Our spiral curriculum ensures depth of knowledge and skill progression.
In line with government recommendations of an hour daily activity, our children complete a minimum of two hours curriculum PE per week and in addition, use our school running track, have organised playtime activities, physically active lessons and after school clubs.
Clubs and Competitions
We offer an extensive range of after school sports clubs for all children and have expert coaches who visit school to work alongside staff to develop key skills.
Our focus on high quality sport has led us to succeed in many level two and three competitions.
